Lighting Manufacturer
Sees the Light: Savings From Quality Packaging
One of the largest lighting company’s in the Midwest was experiencing
a product damage rate greater than 90% during shipping. They tried over-packing
the product but packaging and labor costs continued to climb. To make
matters worse, customer satisfaction rates were falling, additional freight
costs were rising, and replacement parts, invoicing and reconciliation
charges were out of control.
Packaging Design was one of four suppliers invited to investigate the
situation. Rather than examining just the troubled product, we looked
at the packaging strategies for all their products. After brainstorming
with their engineering department, manufacturing and shipping people,
our designers developed a carton that not only reduced packaging costs,
it consolidated several of their lines from four package sizes down to
one.
By working with Packaging Design, this manufacturer was able to reduce
labor costs, increase customer satisfaction, reduce damage return rate,
and consolidate inventory.
