Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Box Closures but Were Afraid to Ask

Two things you should know about us and our focus today on box closures

  1. We love to keep our customers informed about the seemingly endless details of the complex world of corrugated boxes
  2. We love old movie references

Hence our latest titles.

We know that packaging is not a one size fits all scenario.  OK We should have made that three things, and mentioned that we also really like puns, clichés, and plays on words.

Today we are going to focus on how the box gets closed. You would think that would be a simple 2-word sentence. Box closes.

But you would be wrong. A box can close several different ways. So, in case the Final Jeopardy question is ever about packaging, here’s what you need to know.  When it comes to e-commerce, there are three available options, box closure wise.  And they are

  1. Top tuck – This is when the top/lid of the box has an extra flap that folds INTO the box. This is probably the most basic, simple option, but can be difficult to close depending on the box contents and how it is packed.
  2. Front lock – The most secure option because the front flap “cherry locks” fold into the front of the box and hold it closed. This is the customer favorite because when combined with side “dust flaps” it is pilfer-resistant.
  3. Tab lock – Probably the most attractive option for customers who want a “less industrial/ more retail” look to their direct to consumer packaging

And we get that this is important because you have put a lot of time and energy into the end user’s unboxing experience and how everything you do ties in to your brand.

Bottom line. We are here to help you figure out which closure makes the most sense for you and results in the experience you want for your customers.

We can talk about this stuff all day. We won’t. We know you don’t have time for that. But we can talk about it with you.  Offline. When you’re ready.
